Public Service Projects
Beginning in August 2008, CCAHU adopted Lincoln Elementary School as part of the “adopt a school” program through Clark County School District. Since then, we have collected school supplies every school year. 2010 was a particularly difficult year for the school district as they faced numerous cut backs to balance the budget. Our members collected everything from school supplies to socks to copy paper for the students and staff at Lincoln.
• Members of CCAHU participated in the annual Harvest Festival this year. We were joined by the students of Atech High School’s Interact Club. This is an after school community service club that is headed by faculty advisor, Mrs. Kimberly McNair-Styles. Her students have donated their time and energy in a number of Public Service projects supported by CCAHU.
• Angel Tree for Lincoln kids. Once again, CCAHU has partner with the Atech HS Interact club in providing holiday gifts for the 50 kids at Lincoln who would have nothing under their trees this year. We were asked by Mr. France to provide long sleeve polo shirts this year as the school will be transitioning to a uniform system. We have also asked Walmart to participate with us this year and matching our donation to the Lincoln kids.
• Monthly Fund Raisers at Fuddrucker’s- since March of this year, we have been holding monthly fund raisers at Fuddrucker’s. All proceeds from these events will be donated to BOTH Lincoln Elementary School and Atech High School’s Interact Club. The kids from the Interact club have been at Fuddrucker’s every month to assist us in making sure everyone has a flyer to present when ordering. This December, during our Holiday Party, we will be presenting BOTH Lincoln and Atech a check for $250. We will take November and December off. This event will resume in January.
• Chili Cook Off- CCAHU held it’s first annual Chili Cook Off at Club Sport in Henderson on Saturday, October 16, 2010. We had a number of cooks participating from the ICS (international chili society.) We were featured in numerous publications, radio advertisements and we even got air time on Channel 13 (ABC) the Wednesday prior to the event. We held a “mini” chili cook off right there on air. We had a number of our carrier partners participating as well. This event did not raise the kind of money we were hoping to raise. We will continue to hold this event. Now that the ground work has been laid down, we anticipate a rip-roaring event next year.
• Golf Tournament- this year, CCAHU held it’s annual golf tournament on September 30th, 2010 at Pauite Golf Course. We partnered up with the Boy and Girls Club of Las Vegas. Almost $10,000 was raised and donated to the Boy and Girls Club. All monies raised for the Boys and Girls Clubs will be staying right here in Southern Nevada to help support our kids.
