Public Service Projects

Starting in August of 2008 we adopted Lincoln Elementary School and since then we have done the following projects for them:

  • Back to school supplies - this project had a major push in August & September and then we have provided additional items as needed
  • Harvest Festival - members of our chapter volunteered for their annual Harvest Festival. We staffed game booths for the evening.
  • Angel Tree - at our November meeting, we had an Angel tree with names and pertinent information on needy children at Lincoln Elementary. Our members "adopted" all 50 children. At the Christmas luncheon, we brought all the toys, clothes, books that had been requested. We also presented a check for $402 to the principal to help him with out-of-pocket expenses for needy children. Kids to kids came to our luncheon and donated books for the school library - 1 book for every child at the school - over 800 books. A group of first graders came to the luncheon, sang Christmas songs from around the world, and were treated to lunch. Each child that came was also given a gift bag with goodies.

At Christmas, we also donated $750 to Project Sheros - a program for empowerment of young people supported by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Las Vegas.

The checks that were given to Lincoln Elementary School and Project Sheros were proceeds from our Annual Wine/Silent Auction Event that was hosted in November.

In October 2008, we held our first Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the ALS-TDI foundation. In addition to companies that donated directly to ALS-TDI, we raised another $11,427 which we presented at the golf tournament to the representative from ALS-TDI. One of our members, David Deitch, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2008, was featured in the media and was at the golf tournament.
